MBABANE- Looks like it will be a busy time for parents and retail outlets!
The Eswatini Competition Commission (ECC) has recalled Purity Essential Baby Powder products by Tiger Brands of September 2022.
This public service announcement was sent out yesterday by the ECC management.
The management said the ECC and the COMESA Competition Commission (CCC) received a product safety notification of certain products manufactured by the Tiger Brands, a South African Company which imports to Eswatini.
According to management, the notification was on defects in some batches of its Purity Essentials Baby Powder product.
“The notification follows the detection of trace levels of asbestos in test samples from a batch of pharmaceutical-grade talc powder used as raw material in the production of the finished powder products.
“Tiger Brands has indicated that the recall is precautionary as the raw material with detected trace levels of asbestos did not meet the company’s quality and safety standards,” said ECC management in the statement.
They also said however, the general public was informed that the recall would not affect the Purity Essentials Cornstarch Powder or any other Baby Care products under the Purity brand.
The management went on to say the Commission was mandated by the Fair Trading Act of 2001 and the Competition Act of 2007 to ensure, promote and protect consumer service.
The public was advised to be cautious in their shopping by refraining from purchasing the above mentioned product, not to utilise the product and return all mentioned products to the retailers and distributors with immediate effect.
“All retailers are advised to remove the products from their shelves and ensure that they do no sell any of the recalled products to consumers.
“Where consumers have already purchased the described products, retailers are encouraged to receive them back and refund consumers fully where proof of payment has been shown,” said ECC management.
