Speaking on behalf of the Road Safety Council this morning, Nokuthula Taala said the campaigns are also to raise awareness of festive road accidents. She said in the past years there would be an increase in road accidents during the festive season.

“We have been conducting campaigns with our strategic partners for some time and we wish to remind Emaswati that there are few instances whereby a road causes an accident but it is mostly caused by a mistake made by the driver. We plead with all drivers to make sure their vehicles are in good condition to use the road,” she said.

Taala also said that drivers should consider other users of the roads, fellow motorists and pedestrians and also note that there will be destruction such as livestock and potholes while using the roads.

“Emaswati are also advised to celebrate their festive holidays at home because we will be all over the roads of Eswatini making sure there are cases of drinking and driving. Alcohol is the number one cause of festive road accidents,” she said.

She later urged pedestrians to use the correct sides of the roads and pedestrian crossing signs and farmers to watch their livestock during the season.
