MBABANE – The Eswatini Rugby Union (ERU) is bracing for a thrilling climax to the 7s Championship Series, billed for Saturday (June 8) at Malkerns Country Club.
Five teams will battle it out for the ultimate prize from 9:30am. The grand finale comes after two weeks of the series, whereby there has been significant changes at the top of the rankings. With just a single point separating Mbabane Cheetahs, currently ranked first, and Malkerns Centre ranked second, every match would be a do-or-die battle.
ERU Communications Officer Phumlani Gumedze said the tournament has showcased some of the country’s top rugby talent and every game is set to be a nail-biting finish.
“We are looking forward to a blockbuster because ever since the first week of the games, the standard has been very high, and that is something we cherish as a union. The game has improved a lot, and the competition from the clubs is healthy, thanks to our development program,” he said.
Gumedze also urged the participating clubs to maintain their focus and continue working hard.
He also expressed the organization’s gratitude to the individuals and companies who have contributed to the success of the tournament.
“We appreciate the individuals and companies who have helped us. Their input has helped us in a long way. We invite every rugby lover in the country to come and witness rugby at its best,” he added.
The game 7s Championship series has entered its crescendo stage and the prestigious title is now within reach for five formidable rugby teams namely, Mbabane Cheetahs Rugby Club, Malkerns Rugby Centre, Dvokolwako Buffaloes Rugby Club, Mbabane Jaguars Rugby Club and Shiselweni 7s Centre. The teams are expected to arrive at 9am with games scheduled to begin at 9:30am.
