MBABANE – Former National Civil Registrar Russell Vusumuzi Nxumalo has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Cooperative Development under the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade.
Nxumalo was appointed by Minister for Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo today at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Mbabane. Nxumalo will be replacing Nonhlanhla Mnisi, who has since retired. Minister Khumalo thanked Mnisi in absentia for working diligently as the Commissioner of Cooperatives.
Khumalo told Nxumalo that he had more work in front of him, as he assumed his new role. Nxumalo will be responsible for handling over E3 billion that is with all the cooperative societies in the country. Khumalo also told Nxumalo that he had a task of making sure that a cooperative bank was established, so that the members of these organisations could benefit from such an initiative.
Nxumalo was first employed as a public servant in 2010 as Human Resource Officer at the Ministry of Public Service until 2013 where he then moved to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under same position.
In 2014, he was promoted to Senior Human Resources Officer and transferred to the Ministry of Economic Planning. From 2016 to 2021, he assumed position as Senior Program Officer for SADC unit he was promoted back to the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2021 where he assumed position as Deputy National Civil Registrar.
The highly-experienced public administrator was involved in the country’s preparations for hosting the SADC Summit in 2016 and 2017, according to Minister Khumalo. As a National Civil Registrar, he was part of the core team that pushed for the legislation of the National Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Act of 2022.
The seasoned director has a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) and he is pursuing a Master’s in Public Administration with the Management College of Southern Africa (MANCOSA).
