MBABANE- The Ministry of Home Affairs has ended the week on a high note!

This is after Russell Nxumalo, an officer at the above mentioned ministry, was officially revealed as the new National Civil Registrar. Nxumalo previously served as Deputy National Civil Registrar, before being appointed about two weeks ago. However, the official assumed his new position today.

Nxumalo is taking over from Nomphumelelo Sibeko, who retired in December 2021.

Confirming Nxumalo’s appointment was the Ministry of Home Affairs Communications Officer, Mlandvo Dlamini, who said the ministry was happy to have Nxumalo assume the position.

“National Civil Registrar is in charge of all registrations in the country and it is a very important role,” said Dlamini.

Dlamini went on to say Nxumalo made commitments for Strategic Plan of 2022/2027 which would be music into people ears.

Nxumalo said he planned that, if all systems are on point, National ID registrations in Mbabane and Manzini Service Centres will be a same day service.

“In the meantime, if all systems are on point, early registrations for Birth and Death Certificates will be a 60-minute service,” explained Dlamini.

Early registrations are the ones that are made within 60 days of birth and/or death.

Dlamini also said Nxumalo’s strategy was intending on having births and deaths registered in all hospitals in the country. Currently, they are registered at the Mbabane Government Hospital and Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) only.

Nxumalo was first employed as a public servant in 2010 as Human Resource Officer at the Ministry of Public Service until 2013 where he then moved to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under same position.

In 2014, he was promoted to Senior Human Resources Officer and transferred to the Ministry of Economic Planning. From 2016 to 2021, he assumed position as Senior Program Officer for SADC unit he was promoted back to the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2021 where he assumed position as Deputy National Civil Registrar.
