SADC ELECTORAL ADVISORY COUNCIL IN THE COUNTRY

MBABANE– The National Elections in the country are increasingly gaining international traction.

Yesterday, the SADC Electoral Advisory Council (SEAC) landed in the country, first paying a courtesy visit to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Thuli Dladla, in Mbabane, at the Inter-Ministerial Offices.

The SEAC will be conducting a pre-election assessment goodwill mission in the country because of the commencement of the National Elections.

According to a communiqué sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the SEAC visit is in line with the standard practice of observing elections in the SADC Region.

SADC is the acronym for Southern African Development Community.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Communications Officer, Sikhumbuzo Bhembe, confirmed the SEAC courtesy visit to the Minister, disclosing that in this regard, the SEAC would be in the country from May 31 (yesterday) to June 7, 2023.

He further said the SEAC was led by its Deputy Chairperson and former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Namibia, Advocate Notemba Tjipueja, from the Republic of Namibia.

“Other members of the delegation are retired Judge Fauz Twaib who is representing the United Republic of Tanzania and Madam Likamatso who is the former Chairperson of the IEC of Lesotho,” said Bhembe. The Communications Officer also revealed that the delegation handed over the second consignment of the Hashim Mbita Southern African Liberation text as commissioned by SADC.
