KINSHASA – The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has taken a resolution to hold an Extra-ordinary Summit of the Organ Troika to help Eswatini quell the political tensions which have resulted in violence.
The resolution was announced in the communique from the 42nd Ordinary Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the SADC. The summit was held on 17th of August 2022, in Kinshasa, the Capital City of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
In reference to the Kindom of Eswatini, the communique read:
13. Summit welcomed a brief report presented by the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini, regarding the security situation in the country, and while condemning the violence, it mandated the Chairperson of the Organ to convene an Extra-ordinary Summit of the Organ Troika plus Eswatini, at a date to be determined, aimed at finding a peaceful and lasting solution to the security challenges facing the country.
Other countries whose issues of political violence were also addressed include Mozambique, Tanzania, and South Africa.
