GOLF – The eagerly awaited two-day Mbabane Gold Club Championship sponsored by Swaziland Building Society that was scheduled for the weekend of February 25-26 has since been postponed.

The news were confirmed by Mbabane Golf Club secretary Thabiso Gama. To determine Mbabane Golf Cub’s best players, the club host the annual club championship and all club members in good standing are eligible to participate, compete against each other over two days.

With a new date yet to be fixed, the championship will be played under the medal format. The best player to be produced is the one who will play the least number of shots over the two days and will become the champion until the next club championship.

The reigning club champion is Vusi H. Dlamini, who won last year’s competition on an excellent score of gross 146, beating Siboniso Simelane by a single shot. The best net category was won by Dumisa Gama on net 139, prevailing by a single shot over Sabelo Motsa.

A total of 57 golfers participated in last year’s Club Championship and the hope and expectation is that the numbers will improve this year.

Previous winners of the club championship include Siboniso Simelane, Sam Richards and Banele Mavuso to mention a few.

“While winning the championship is obviously a wonderful experience, it requires grit, determination and patience. Leading after the first day doesn’t mean anything if it will not be followed by another excellent showing on the Sunday. There are plenty of stories about golfers who have led after the first day, considered themselves champions, only to completely fall out of contention on the Sunday,” he added.
