MBABANE– Swaziland Building Society (SBS) has pumped in E30 000 for the 2023 Mbabane Golf Club Championships slated for this weekend.
The annual Mbabane Golf Club Championship is set to excite and disappoint in equal measure as club members take to the fairways this weekend, March 25 to 26, 2023. Over 60 golfers are set to battle it out over two days, to determine the best Mbabane golf club golfer for the year 2023.
The competition is played under the medal format, which is arguably the hardest format in golf. This is because all shots played until the ball is holed are totaled for 18 holes and the winner is the golfer who plays the least number of shots, which is not the easiest thing for most amateur golfers.
“Club championship weather has a tendency of having its presence felt too, often operating in the extremes, and further adding complexity to an already complicated sport. Saturdays are usually wet and cold, making scoring difficult and ruining a lot of scores, while Sundays have a tendency of being scorching hot. This weekend’s weather is forecast to follow the same pattern,” said Mbabane Golf Club secretary Thabiso Gama.
Vusi H. Dlamini is the defending champion. He has vowed to do all he can to defend the trophy, which will not be easy as hoists of other golfers are also gunning for it.
“This should make for an exciting and enjoyable tournament. The tournament is made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Swaziland Building Society which has been a sponsor and partner of the club for the past eight years. This year’s tournament sponsorship is to the value of E30 000.”
