SITEKI – In an unmatched cultural competition that seamlessly merged education and tradition, Chief Jozane Maziya of KaLanga Chiefdom awarded a grand prize of eight cows to the talented learners who shined in various cultural activities during the competition.
According to Global Primary School Teacher Phumuza Zwane, about 23 schools of Siteki participated in cultural competition at KaLanga Royal Kraal (Umphakatsi) on Wednesday (June 5, 2024). This celebration was organised by Chief Jozane Maziya and Bandlancane (the chiefdom’s inner council), under the theme, ‘Siyabonga Makhosi kusibekela Sikhulu Babe Jozane Maziya.’
It is stated that the celebration of culture at KaLanga was a vibrant and lively event that left all those who attended with sense of pride and belonging. Leaners performed powerful and energetic activities such as Ummiso, Sibhaca, African dance and choral. Chief Jozane gave away eight cows to all the schools that attained first position at different categories. Global Revival Primary School obtained first price position in Ummiso, followed by St Pauls Catholic School and St Boniface Primary. Sitsatsaweni High School won in Sibhaca competition.
Zwane elaborated that it was great pleasure for the school to participate in such event and showcase students’ talent hence promoting culture. “Celebrating culture in schools holds a significant importance for several reasons such as giving students the opportunity to learn and appreciate the rich traditions, customs, and history of the country,” he said.
When making his remarks, Chief Jozane appreciated all those who participated in the commemoration of linking culture and education. “I would like to thank all those who assisted in this event of intertwining culture and education. “he said. He promised that this event would also be done next year.
