ATHLETICS – After two terms on the sidelines, former Athletics Eswatini (AE) Vice President Selby Shongwe is back to contest the incumbent Zakhele Dlamini for the hottest seat in athletics.
In accordance with Article 14.1 of the AE Constitution, the association will hold its Elective Annual General Meeting on March 11 at the Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) Auditorium in Manzini, starting at 10 am.
The deadline for clubs to submit their nominees was on Friday, February 24. In another interesting duel, Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) Athletics Club Chairman Sipho Vilakati will contest on two fronts; the vice presidency and treasurer posts contesting Harry Malindzisa and Bongani Ntshalintshali respectively.
Incumbent Gender and Equity Chairperson Nonhlanhla Mathabela is officially out of the AE executive board as she received no nominees with the position to be contested for by Sanele Manana and Nondumiso Ndzinisa of Mhlatane Athletics Club and the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) Athletics Club respectively.
While the biggest item on the agenda will be that of elections, it will also consist of an address by President Zakhele Dlamini, an annual activity report by Chief Operations Officer Thoba Mazibuko and audited financial statements by Treasurer Bongani Ntshalintshali.
The will also be consideration of decisions and recommendations from the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) and CAA-SR (Southern Region) where the incumbent Dlamini is now president, World Athletics (WA) and consideration of amendments to the constitution.
