SOCCER – Mlumati-based Seven-Up are the champions of the Pigg’s Peak stream Cabana Under-13 champions.
Seven-Up beat Trounge United of Msumpe by a solitary goal in the finals as the Liyasikwa Liyamila Hhohho Youth Development initiative hit the small but busy-as-a-beehive town at Malandalahle Sports Ground.
The two finalists are originally from the Ntfonjeni stream and were able to boot out Pigg’s Peak stream teams in Maguga Cosmos and Thuluzobona 3-1 and 4-3 respectively in the semi-finals played on the same day.
“As the Hhohho Youth Development, we were quite impressed with the quality displayed on the day and it was evident that there was massive potential. It was a new programme which touched the northern part of the region and we were impressed with the turn-up,” said Development Officer Sibonangaye Dlamini.
The new season will resume at the end of March and finish in September. Dlamini added that they were looking forward to extending the competition to the Under-17s to accommodate the talent that will be over 13 years.
“Also, we want every club affiliated to the Hhohho Regional Football Association to have these youth teams. For example, we have 21 clubs in the Ntfonjeni Regional League and that will create a wider pool of players,” he said.
Cabana will be at Lobamba this weekend to complete the Lobamba Zone where four teams will compete for the ultimate prize.
Attending the event was the HRFA Executive and the kids were happy to see and shake hands with their football leaders.
