MBABANE –  A Valentine’s Day proposal!

While most ladies received flowers, chocolates, and some whisked away for a romantic getaway to celebrate Valentine’s Day, Sibongile Dlamini got a marriage proposal from her man, Machawe Mathabela.

Mathabela is from Mhlumeni in Siteki, and Dlamini is from Lukhula, also in Siteki. The proposal took place at the Tree Tops Game Resort yesterday. The establishment hosted a Valentine’s Day lunch. According to the resort’s manager, Themba Thwala, who witnessed the proposal, it was beautiful.

Mathabela shared with this publication that he had been planning to propose for a month. The couple met on October 19, 2019, and started dating late in November of the same year. We reached out to the couple and asked them to share their love story leading to the engagement, and this is what they had to say.

How did you win her over?

It was not easy at all; she was so determined and focused. But I kept on pushing, and I promised her the world. I assured her of the love I have for her and the future plans I have. In her, I saw our future. She believed me, and she gave me her heart.

What attracted you to her?

She is indeed a beautiful woman. She is so cute and lovely. Her character, which she presented to me when we first met, was good. She was welcoming.

Do you guys celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Yes, we do. Last year, for Valentine’s Day, she prepared a house picnic. She also bought me a t-shirt, and I bought her a dress.

What has kept the relationship going over the years?

We created values that will guide the relationship, which are: love, respect, honesty, communication, compromise, and tolerance. Communication is key. A lot of relationships fail because of poor communication, but mostly God should be the first priority, and we should always pray for wisdom.

What are your favourite gifts for Valentine’s Day?

Chocolates, rosés, jewellery, surprise dinners, and clothing.

Can social media cause rifts in relationships?

Not if the couple knows what they want and their destiny. You have to be guided by your dreams, not negative comments from social media.

What would you advise someone whose partner refuses to be posted on social media?

That means the partner is not ready to settle down, and he or she is hiding something. Sometimes it happens that that particular person is innocent; it is just that he or she has had a bad experience on social media.
