SIPHOCOSINI – The Shukuma Eswatini Programme continues to decentralise and grow its impact in the Kingdom of Eswatini. Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries Bulunga says Eswatini’s development is hugely dependent on an active and healthy population thus the importance of the Shukuma Eswatini programme. Minister Bulunga was speaking at the Shukuma Eswatini activation at Siphocosini Inkhundla attended by hundreds of residents on Saturday.

Speaking during the activation, Minister Bulunga said, “Through Shukuma Eswatini, we are preaching the message of healthy living through sport. We want to see every able liSwati, young and old, taking up sport and staying physically active. This is important because in this way, the Nation will stay healthy, ensuring that less time and resources are spent on health and more energy is directed towards production and driving economic growth.”

“We have also enhanced the Shukuma Eswatini programme to now include a culture aspect. This is our way of preserving our beautiful culture and allowing emaSwati to have many opportunities to showcase and celebrate who we are. It is pleasing to see, in particular, young people being so involved in these culture competitions,” added Minister Bulunga.

Shukuma also provides an opportunity for sporting associations to spread their programmes and demonstrate to new audiences. Saturday’s activation was attended by various associations including: boxing, cricket, darts, tennis, swimming, rugby and volleyball.
