MANZINI – Sifundzani high school who represented the country at this year’s Junior Achievement (JA) Africa Company of the year has been hailed true heroes by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo.
The Minister said the Sifundzani team has made the country proud by placing Eswatini on third place in Africa, they further won a cash prize of $500(E 8 671) and a foundation award.
“As a Ministry and parents we are proud and happy of the team, these are our future leaders and they have already started creating their CVs,” said Khumalo.
In addition to that he said , there was hope for the country as things are not doom and gloom, he mentioned that despite everything happening in the country there were still good news about Eswatini to look out for.
“When we bid farewell to the team, we knew they would bring the prize home. Being placed on the third place in the whole of Africa is pretty big,” he said.
Worth noting is that The 1A Africa Company of the Year (COY) Competition is Africa’s premier pitch competition for high school-aged youth who have completed the flagship JA Company Programme.
The three day event brings together pupils from countries across Africa to compete in teams for cash and prizes, in this contest of business skills, ingenuity and innovation.
The school embraced the theme and created a much needed product that time out all appliances in one’s absence and the product seem to have spoken to the change humans are looking for.
Meanwhile JA Executive Director, Phetsile Masilela said they were very happy for the win and more than anything they were happy to have consistently been in the top three.
She further stated that their product won them the Citi foundation award, which was given to the company, focused on customer service, hence it being called the client focus award.
“For this particular award, we received plaques and a Samsung tablet. Overall we could have not done it without the support of the nation and their belief in us,”said Masilela.
In addition to that she said they were very happy to have won because they were competing with nine countries and were proud of the team because they had a short time to prepare.
