MBABANE-The Bible Society in Eswatini launched a siSwati study Bible.
The launch was handled by the Chief Executive Officer of Bible Society Eswatini, Dr. Ngcebo Mbuli yesterday at Mahlanya in the offices.
Speaking during the launch, Mbuli said the study bible was created for emaSwati who want a deeper and full understanding of what the scripture entails.
“The good thing about our siSwati Bible is that it is written in our language. It was created in 1997 and has been used since then. We were then asked to create a study Bible in siSwati which will contain notes and illustrations which would give the reader a deeper understanding of the scripture. The study bible is already available,” said Mbuli.
SiSwati Language Board member, Inkhosikati Thandi Khumalo said this was a great initiative for the language to be used more.
“We love and encourage the use of our mother tongue. What draws attention about this initiative is obviously the use of the siSwati language. It is important to create something that will be put to great use, now and in the future. “SiSwati is a deep-rooted language, very broad and also diverse. A lot goes into translating words and finding out how correctly the words have been used or structured. This is why translation actually deserves applause. We are still going to sit down and have a read-through to look for words and find out how well they have structured it using the language,” said Khumalo.
I would like to buy some bibles for a church in Eswatini, where can I acquire some?
