MBABANE– The second edition of the Makoti Festival will be held on April 22, 2023, at Malkerns Country Club with an exciting line-up that will be revealed in stages.

South African award-winning musician Sjava recently took to his social media platform, to announce a jam-packed Makoti festival.

He said he was looking forward to the show and shared how Eswatini has become a second home for him.

“My April Gig is packed and I’m honoured I will be in Eswatini. Do come through for a jam-packed Makoti Festival,” he said in his live video.

Worth noting is that New Life Entertainment will be hosting the second edition of the much-loved music, food, and fashion festival.

Committee member, Thembinkosi Mthethwa, in a previous interview revealed that they were still in preparations for the event and would reveal other artists who will also perform at a later stage.
Mthethwa promised that this year’s show would be bigger and better than the last. The Makoti Fest is a family-oriented event aimed at promoting the Eswatini culture in a fun and inclusive manner, which is why the event will include activities for children among others.

Added this morning to the Line-up was Gospel icon Hlengiwe Mhlaba, he joins the likes of Shwi Nomtekhaya and Sjava among others.

Food and fashion stalls, live performances and cultural exchange programmes will be the order of the day at the festival and it promises to be a family-friendly environment for patrons.

The emphasis on the word ‘makoti’ speaks to the event’s goal to empower women through this initiative and to educate younger females on the importance of being a responsible female, while promoting entrepreneurship among women.

“The festival is the brainchild of New Life Entertainment, together with the Illa Penboy Foundation, who has seen a glaring gap in the celebration of modern women, in particular married, unmarried and the young girls who aspire to be a proud makoti in the near future. At this event, the whole family will come out to play and network, while also selling wares, dressed in African inspired clothing creating a buzz for lifestyle, fashion, food and music,” reads a statement by the committee.

According to Mthethwa, there will be traditional meals prepared on that day and patrons will also get to experience vintage Eswatini food.

Companies participating in the event are encouraged to bring along members of their staff who belong to Lutsango as this is an event aimed at women empowerment.

Patrons are urged to bring their families and participate in this culturally rich initiative, which will intrigue foreigners and raise interest in the local youth on issues pertaining to their culture.

We expect to see various designs inspired by local patterns and sceneries while enjoying a unique Eswatini experience with the whole family.

This will also greatly improve relations in families, as they will get a chance to interact with one another, unlike the routine that our daily life brings.
