MBABANE – A great initiative for producers and musicians.
Sound is clarity and quality, not volume. These were the words of veteran producer, Sound Designer, Mixing and Mastering Engineer, and Music Analyst Ziyawakazitha Matsenjwa, who is hosting music classes to teach aspiring music producers about the art of mastering sound and more.
The master classes will be held over two days on February 2–3 in Manzini at a venue yet to be confirmed. Matsenjwa shared with this publication that the classes will cost E150 for both days.
He said, “This is the first master class that I will be hosting, where the topics of Sound Review, Production, and Ear Training will be introduced and a couple of other things will be discussed.”
When asked what the purpose of the master class was, he said, “Besides empowering aspiring engineers and producers, I want to teach them how to meet the standards of production. If you want to take your music to another level, it has to meet certain standards to sell. It has killed our industry to rush the process of making music without the knowledge of how to meet international standards for a good-quality product.”
Matsenjwa went on to say he wants to educate and empower aspiring sound engineers and producers about music as a business as well. “Music is not just entertainment; it’s a business. It’s high time people pulled up their socks and took up the chance to learn production and sound. Sound is clarity and quality, not volume. Connecting frequency, not loudness. I want to correct that with the master classes so that our music can be recognised at international standards,” said Matsenjwa.
When asked how one registers to attend the master class, he said interested people should RSVP to get all the necessary details, including the venue. “We need to adapt the trend to RSVP as well and move along with the times; it also helps us with planning the logistics.”
