LOBAMBA – The country’s speaker will be one of two veteran politicians in Jabulani “Buy Cash” Mabuza, or Madala Mhlanga.
This follows the nomination process which happened in the first sitting of the 12th Parliament of the Kingdom of Eswatini today.
Motivating MPs to elect Madala Mhlanga was Siphocosini Member of Parliament (MP) Mduduzi Matsebula. He cited that Mhlanga has been trusted once again for a consecutive term by the people of Mahlangatane. He also noted that Mhlanga has been a Deputy Speaker before, which means that he has some experience in the role of Speaker. He further motivated MPs to vote for Mhlanga by reminding MPs that Mhlanga has served in many committees within the Government, through different Ministries and responsibilities.
“We request to have Mhlanga continue with this work, and we should support him in this mission of being Speaker,” said Matsebula when motivating the House.
Motivating MP’s to elect Jabulani Mabuza as Speaker, on the other hand, was MP Mabulala Maseko.
“Jabulani Mabuza was elected by the people with votes of over 5000. This means he is a reliable and trustworthy person, who the people of Pigg’s Peak can represent them,” said MP Mabulala Maseko, when motivating MPs to vote for Mabuza.
“He is a jack of all trades, and master of all,” added Maseko, noting that Mabuza has been in numerous positions of Governance, executing his duties diligently, from being a Minister of Agriculture, Acting Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, as well being an Acting Deputy Prime Minister.
The House of Assembly is currently in a short recess, following which the Speaker in the House of Assembly for the next five years will be elected.
