MBABANE – Students studying in the country’s tertiary institutions will be updated on their allowances next week.

This follows a delay in disbursing the allowances to the students by Government, through the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. According to a statement issued by Ministry of Labour and Social Security Principal Secretary (PS) Makhosini Mndawe, the Ministry regretted any inconvenience caused by this.

“The Ministry of Labour and Social Security humbly informs students studying in local tertiary institutions and are supported through the Government Scholarship Programme as well as all the stakeholders that payment of student allowances for the academic year 2023/24, month of March remain delayed,” said part of the statement.

Mndawe assured students that the Ministry was doing everything possible to find a solution to this problem and in the meantime, the Ministry requested for patience and cooperation on the part of the students. “Students will be informed on the anticipated dates of payment before the end of next week,” said part of the statement.

The PS, in the statement, assured the students that their welfare was prioritised by his Ministry. This was to ensure that the learning experience of the students was smooth. He said this was going to be possible if there was cooperation between all the parties involved. He identified the parties as the tertiary institutions, student bodies, and the parents.
