MBABANE – Gwamile Vocational Training Institute and Mechanical (VOCTIM) recently concluded a highly successful nine-day short-term training program, leaving 24 participants from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and industry equipped with advanced skills in automotive troubleshooting wiring circuits and welding.
The training, conducted by two experts from Taiwan, Mr. Jackie Lui and Mr. Jineiki, was part of the Technical and Vocational Skills Certification Enhancement Project. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of training and trade testing at Gwamile VOCTIM’s Automotive and Mechanical Engineering departments.
The participants, consisting of 13 individuals from TVET institutions and industry in the automotive sector and 11 in welding, demonstrated exceptional commitment throughout the program. The training covered various welding techniques, including Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW or TIG), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW or MIG), Gas Cutting (semi-automatic profile cutter), Plasma cutting, and welding fume extraction. Additionally, participants in the automotive track gained valuable insights into troubleshooting engine faults and wiring circuitry.
All 24 participants expressed satisfaction with both the machinery used during the training and the knowledge imparted by the Taiwanese experts. Notably, the training also provided an opportunity for the participants to learn about the trade testing processes in Taiwan. This exposure prompted enthusiasm among industry representatives, leading them to consider sending more employees for upskilling classes in automotive and welding at Gwamile VOCTIM.
The success of the program was further highlighted by the recent installation of instructional equipment, generously donated as part of the project. The equipment includes various welding machines, compressors, portable grinders, and a diverse range of tools. The addition of car engine stations specifically designed for troubleshooting engine faults and wiring circuitry in the automotive department further enhances the institute’s capabilities.
Gwamile VOCTIM looks forward to building on this success and continuing to collaborate with international experts to provide cutting-edge vocational training and certification. The positive feedback from participants and industry partners reinforces the institute’s commitment to excellence in technical and vocational education.
