MBABANE – “Let us include the Republic of China (Taiwan) in such seatings.”

These words, which have been said, and echoed by Taiwan’s alliances, including Eswatini, have not gone unnoticed.

In a recent Twitter post by Taiwan Minister of Foreign Affairs Jaushieh Joseph Wu, the minister applauded Eswatini, and Taiwan’s alliances for urging for their participation in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) #COP.

In the post, the officials which pleaded for the country, including Eswatini Prime Minister Cleopas Dlamini, were shown making their deliberations and they were commended for their effort.

In his address, the Eswatini PM said they were ready to achieve their climate ambition leading to net zero emissions.

“We must leave no one behind. We believe it is time to consider how we can afford Taiwan an opportunity to contribute to the global vision of net zero emissions and does its part in the global fights against climate change,” said His Excellency.

In his comment, Wu, Taiwan Minister of Foreign Affairs, said politics excluded Taiwan from the UNFCCC talks, but their supporters spoke out for a truly just and ambitious #COP.

“Watch Palau President, Tuvalu PM and Eswatini PM tell world leaders why Taiwan can help deliver climate justice and net zero at #COP27,” said Wu.

Over a month ago, the Minister of Works and Public Transport, Chief Ndlaluhlaza Ndwandwe, pleaded for the participation of the Republic of China (Taiwan) at the 41st Session of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) General Assembly yesterday at Montreal in Canada.

“No country should be left behind with regards to aviation activities,” said the minister during his address.

Ndwandwe’s plea followed His Majesty King Mswati III’s plea at the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 77) where he urged that the Republic of China (Taiwan) is included in United Nations activities.

Also, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, through its social media pages, pleaded for Taiwan to participate at the 91st INTERPOL General Assembly which will be held in India.

INTERPOL is the acronym for International Crime Police Organisation.

“Taiwan is committed to working with the rest of the world to fight transnational crime and has proven its ability to make the world a safer place. Eswatini, therefore, urges INTERPOL to support Taiwan’s meaningful participation as an observer,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
