MBABANE – The Republic of China Taiwan has congratulated Eswatini on the peaceful proceedings of the 2023 General Elections.

Conveying the message was Ambassador Jeremy Liang during the Double Tenth National Day.

“Eswatini just recently held its national elections and I would like to congratulate the entire country for such a smooth and peaceful election period. On behalf of the government of Taiwan, we look forward to working with the new elected government and parliament. We sincerely hope that all Emaswati, under the constitutional framework and through the national dialogue, could deliberate and discuss the future development of the country,” said the Minister.

He further mentioned that he was pleased to say such a strong spirit of solidarity was on full display for the world to see at the U.N. General Assembly in New York.

This is where His Majesty called for Taiwan’s participation in the U.N. system. He also called on the world body to make the necessary arrangements for Taiwan to participate in relevant U.N. specialised agencies and mechanisms.

“His Majesty King Mswati III does not tire of vouching for Taiwan’s inclusivity as he also called for Taiwan’s participation during the U.N General Assembly two weeks ago.His Majesty mentioned that Taiwan’s inclusion in the United Nations system would not only strengthen global cooperation and partnership, but also emphasise the principle of ensuring that no one is left behind,” he said.

For this the Taiwan Minister mentioned that he would like to express his deepest gratitude to His Majesty.

“In his words, His Majesty said at this critical juncture, including Taiwan is an essential next step if we are to successfully achieve the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development. His call for Taiwan’s inclusion in the United Nations system encompasses participation in meetings, mechanisms, and activities that pertain to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” said the grateful Minister.

Worth noting is that Eswatini has achieved a number of milestones with Taiwan. Eswatini being ranked top five by the World Bank for its 7.8 economic growth rate is just one of the many triumphs.

Eswatini was also placed 6th on the 2022 Africa Industrialization Index after attaining the second greatest manufacturing value added per capita. These milestones were a true testament of Eswatini’s potential and Taiwan’s honour to be Eswatini’s development partner through it all.

Taiwan and Eswatini share a rock-solid relationship of 55 years. They have stood by each other through thick and thin.

“Taiwan and the Eswatini will continue growing together, cooperating together and working to promote sustainable prosperity. The sky really is the limit, especially taking into account the proven philosophy defining bilateral relations over the past 55 years: Promises made, promises kept,” he said. .
