MBABANE – Taiwan in Eswatini, through the Taiwan Technical Mission, has offered guidance to support new parents in nurturing the health and development of premature infants.
This was revealed at the preterm infant health education that was held at Mankayane Hospital last week. It was gathered that Taiwan did not only offer to support but also contributed beautiful eco-friendly bags to parents.
In fact, this was to commemorate the World Prematurity Day which is formally celebrated on the 15th of November each year. On this day, people around the world in unity they raise awareness of preterm care issues and celebrate the tenacious vitality of premature babies.
Nurse Khulekile Mashwama emphasized on the skin to skin care as aligned with this year’s theme, ‘Small Actions, Big Impacts; Immediate Skin to Skin Care for Every Baby Everywhere’.
“Skin to skin care is very important to preterm neonates. This helps stabilize the heart rate of the baby which then improves the baby’s breathing pattern and make their breathing more regular,” said Mashwama.
The Taiwan Technical Mission team said they are willing to provide information and care guidance to assist new parents in confidently caring for the health and growth of the premature babies. They applauded the hospital and the government for ensuring the health and wellness of premature infants.
