MBABANE– Sixteen schools will see their Agriculture Departments growing!
This is after the Ministry of Agriculture received garden tools worth E650 000 from Taiwan Africa Agriculture Initiative (TAVI).
The tools will be distributed among 16 schools in the country.
The tools donated include waters tanks, watering cans, rakes, shovels and water pipes.
The Principal Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Sydney Simelane, when handing over the tools to the Ministry of Education, said this was under a program promoting farming indigenous vegetables in Africa in partnership with (TAVI).
“Eswatini must do all it can to produce her own food and be able to sustain herself. This is an initiative aimed at encouraging every household and schools to produce its own food using locally available resources.
“The TAVI project has proven to be what the country needs in order to complement these ongoing programs through the access to health or affordable traditional vegetables,” said Simelane.
Principal Secretary under the Ministry of Education and Training, Bhekithemba Gama, received the tools and urged schools that will receive the tools to make good use of them and take care of them as well. Regional Director at World Vegetable Centre Dr. Gabriel Rugalema said it was time for countries in Africa to strengthen sustainable water programs to increase vegetable production.
