SOCCER – After winning the E50 000 MTN National First Division first-round ‘carrot’, Rangers Coach Mthunzi Ginindza says they cannot afford to rest on their laurels as the ultimate goal is regaining the elite league status.
Rangers beat nearest challenger Ezulwini United to the prize to make a statement of intent in their quest. Ginindza admitted the first round was not a walk in the park from game one of the season.
“Winning the first round Incentive is a motivation to the players as well as a big challenge. We had a target for the first round of reaching 30 points which through God Almighty we have accomplished. To show for it, we have the carrot in the bag,” the former Manzini Wanderers and national Under-17 assistant coach said.
He added that winning the first-round prize will bring a lot of challenges for his side as other teams will double their efforts when playing against them.
“We need to uplift and double the standards if we are to go all the way. The main ambition is to take the team back to the Premier League. Despite the promotion we need the championship and walk away with that trophy at the end of the season,” he said. Ginindza noted the need to polish up tactics, change approach and fine-tune his players’ minds for the biggest fish now. He went on to thank the overwhelming support from club Chairman Izigi Kunene and Member of Parliament (MP) Muzi Kunene.
