MBABANE– Over 20 children from Mvutjini National Care Point (NCP) received their first free swimming lessons at Cuddle Puddle in Ezulwini yesterday.
The initiative was established by All Out Africa Foundation.
When sought for comment, swimming teacher Johan Darren said swimming is a necessary skill one should have.
“We are really excited and grateful to train children how to swim. In fact, yesterday we conducted our first swimming training lessons. We are keen that we will have more similar training until the trainees qualify as swimmers. In the meantime, we will work on a schedule for consistency,” she said.
She continued: “swimming is a very important skill that can save children from drowning, especially because Eswatini has so many dams and rivers. Swimming has not been made a priority in some communities and a lot of young lives have been lost through lack of swimming skills,” said Darren.
Darren further mentioned that the trtaining would also serve as an opportunity to find new talent.
“We believe that swimming lessons can help children discover and sharpen their whirling skills. We have about eight teachers who will conduct the training,” Darren said.
