MBABANE – The Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) is proud of their members who finished the 85.91km Comrades Marathon on Sunday in South Africa.
The five teachers were able to finish the run that attracted over 20 000 runners from all over the world and started in Durban City Hall with the finish line HollywoodBets Scottsville Racecourse in Pietermaritzburg.
The fastest teachers out of the five who are members of SNAT and took part in the event was Themba Vilakati who crossed the finish line after 7:17:44 hours while the closest to him was Senzo Gamedze, an educator at Manyeveni Primary School (Siteki Top Branch) who finished after 9:39:04 hours.
Madoda Nkambule from Mhubhe High School was not to be left out as he made it to the finish line after 9:53:10 hours, with Themba Mamba from Evelyn Baring High School finished the ultra marathon after 10:39:04 hours.
Another member who made it to the finish lien was Themba Vilakati.
There were over 60 Emaswati who competed in the annual even and they included 35 runners from Golden Foot Club (GFC) and 15 from Zithande Athletics Club and others registered as individuals in the event.
SNAT congratulated the members for their achievement.
Comrades Marathon is the World’s oldest and largest ultra marathon since 1921. Runners have taken on the course of between 85-90 kilometres between the cities of Durban and Pietermaritzburg (alternating between the ‘up’ & ‘down’ route) in KwaZulu Natal (KZN).
