MBABANE – Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries Bulunga yesterday bade farewell to Team Eswatini that will represent the country at the upcoming African Senior Athletics Championships in Mauritius. Government has supported the participation of the Team at the Games by covering its entire air travel expenses.
Speaking during the farewell, Minister Bulunga said “I am pleased to note that all of you here competed and won medals at the recent Athletics Senior National Champions at Mavuso Sports Centre. This is important and highlights that you are deserving of your respective places on this Team.”
“I note that this Team is a beautiful mixture between seasoned and upcoming athletes and this bodes well for the future of athletics in Eswatini. I hope that for our upcoming athletes, this will be a worthy experience in their growth path,” added Minister Bulunga.
Athletics Eswatini (AE) President Zakhele Dlamini remarked that “Our team is also composed of young and up coming junior athletes who will battle it out with the best of the best in Africa as we continue to thrive for our Together for Gold Vision 2032. We know this is a tough assignment for them but we believe in them and they have a full understanding of our vision as country.”
Athlete Rep Bongiwe Mahlalela added that “We are grateful for this opportunity to be trusted to represent the country in Mauritius. We are going there to fight for better results.”
The team members are Sibusiso Matsenjwa (100m/200m/4×100m); Erikah Seyama (high jump); Bongiwe Mahlalela (100m/200m); Mcebo Mkhaliphi (200m/4×100m); Benele Dlamini (100m/4×100m); Lwazi Msibi (100m/4×100m) & Ayanda Malaza (200m/4×100m). The Team will be led by Eward Ndlangamandla and also consists of Coach Muzi Mabuza.
The Team’s participation at the Games has also been supported by the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA). The Games will be held from 8-12 June.
