MBABANE – Meet Yamkela Khumalo, from Manzini. Yesterday morning he released his mix tape online.
Today we had a seat down with the 28 – year- old DJ and he shared with us his music journey and future plans.
Q: What is the name of your mix tape?
A: I released my mix titled Paradise Mix Party yesterday. It dropped at 10am. I plan on releasing a mix every Friday in December .
Q: Which genre is the mix?
A : The mix is a combination of genres, from Amapiano, to Afro House and Pop music.
Q: Whom did you work with in documenting the visuals?
A: The person behind the amazing visual is a gentleman who goes by the name Thando Ginindza. He is the CEO of MH Creative Studio.
Q: Where was the video shot?
A: The video was shot by Instill Photography at Solani’s Shisanyama early this year when I was booked to DJ alongside the likes of Mellow and Sleazy.
Q: Can we expect more mixes in the near future?
A: That goes without saying, the will definitely be more mixes .In fact I plan on releasing my first song next year.
Q: Who is your favourite DJ in the country and internationally?
A: My favourite DJ in Eswatini would have to be the legendary DJ MBO.
I grew up listening and collecting his mixes and going to his shows. Internationally, I’d have to say DJ Kent.
Q: What advice would you give to an aspiring DJ?
A: Anyone who wants to venture into music, I’d say you need to be patient and consistent. Nothing worthwhile comes easy ,so one has to hustle and work hard. Aligning yourself with the right people is equally important.
