MBABANE – The Knowledge Institute (TKI) continues to expose Emaswati to educational opportunities across the world and people are listening.

TKI yesterday hosted a panel discussion for this year’s application cycle of the Chevening and Commonwealth scholarships. The event was hosted by TKI Co-founder and Chevening Scholar, Sephutile Mhlongo on Wednesday 12 October via Zoom. Over 150 people registered for the panel discussion.

The event was held in partnership with the British High Commissioner to Eswatini. His Excellency, Simon Boyden provided opening remarks. He gave pointers on what makes a Chevening Scholar, and he continued to engage with prospective applicants in the chat during the call.

Emaswati who were interested in the scholarships also had the opportunity to listen to scholars of the two programs, as well as a Chevening Officer.

Speaking to this reporter, Sephutile Mhlongo confirmed that attendants to the event were very interested in understanding the application requirements.

“A lot of the questions were around the eligibility criteria like the previous work experience, and the English proficiency requirements,” said Mhlongo.

The panelists were Ayanda Mamba, 2022/2023 Commonwealth Shared Scholar 2022/2023 who is going to study for a MSc in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology at the University of Strathclyde in the United Kingdom; Sibongiseni Zondi, a 2022/2023 Chevening Scholar who is going study for a MA in Public Relations and Digital Communications at the University of Salford in the UK; Lindokuhle Mthupha, a 2022/2023 Chevening Scholar who is going to study for a MSc, Marketing and Brand Management at the Nottingham Trent University in the UK, as well as Loice Alusala, a Chevening Officer at the British High Commission.

She also revealed that there have been 130 Chevening Scholars from Eswatini so far.

“There are three Commonwealth scholarships, and then there is the Chevening Scholarship,” said Mhlongo, adding that the information for each can be found on TKI’s website linking to all the respective programs.

She said that the video from the panel discussion will be uploaded on the TKI YouTube channel and shared on social media platforms next week. She added that for anyone interested in finding out what last year’s panelists had shared can visit the TKI YouTube channel for a video from last year’s session.
