MBABANE – The Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini has urged emaSwati to report for work tomorrow.

This took place today at the Cabinet Press Conference room in Mbabane.

Delivering this message to the Nation Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku said the community planned demonstration in Manzini for April 12, 2023, was not going to be allowed to take place.

This comes after Political parties announced that they were going to stage demonstrations, Masuku said even though it was going to be a normal day, there will be heightened security presence.

“Government has observed and not taken lightly the circulating social media reports and general talk about a planned disruption of the economy through petition delivery marches and border blockades scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday 12 April 2023.

“Any plan that has the potential to disrupt the economy is not only selfish but erodes the economic gains the country has achieved,” he said.

In addition to that, Masuku said the Government wishes to remind the Nation that tomorrow is a normal working day and that holidays are announced by the Government as gazetted.

The DPM further highlighted that Government expects emaSwati to be at work tomorrow and those who
wish to travel for critical services such as healthcare and education or any other reason are free to do so.

“As usual, the police will be vigilant on the ground and monitoring the situation while providing the necessary protection to the Nation as per their national security mandate. We do urge the nation to cooperate with the police as they perform their duties,” he said.

Meanwhile the Government of Eswatini took time to appreciate public transport operators who have made their stance known on the matter and have openly announced that there will be no public transport disruption tomorrow.

Masuku said this was commendable coming from the public transport sector as it shows that they understand that public transport is a critical service and that they are charged with ensuring that emaSwati arable to travel seamlessly to any given point.

When Masuku was asked about his stance on South Africa mobilising their parties to help political parties in the country to stage the demonstration tomorrow, Masuku said South Africa should focus on finding the serial killer and rapist on the loose Thabo Bester.

“They should focus on finding the serial killer and their rand, not our issues, government continues to urge emaSwati to be vigilant and look out for any elements that may pose a security threat to the Nation and report these through the relevant information channels. We need not emphasize the fact that as emaSwati, we should always be our brothers’ keepers,” he said.
