MBABANE – The Ministry of Education and Training is determined to positively transform the education through consultations with different stakeholders in the country.
Speaking during the meeting, Minister of Education and Training Lady Howard Mabuza expressed that it would be very unfortunate if schools were to be unceremoniously closed again – referring to COVID-19.
“The education sector has not been spared from this crisis. The sector is still recovering from educational losses due to COVID-19, civil unrest, and tropical storms which have further widened existing inequalities in the country’s educational attainment,” observed Minister Mabuza.
She highlighted that the problems that come with stopping education of children include: increased cases of teenage pregnancy, child marriage and sexual exploitation, substance abuse, discouraged learners who will further drop out from the education system, mental health issues due to heightened anxiety and uncertainties on the future of education for learners, child labour in informal or illegal employment.
Our sector cannot afford further losses hence the need for a transformative, innovative, sustainable and resilient solution towards building an inclusive, equitable and quality education system”, concluded Minister Mabuza.
