EZULWINI – “The Government recognises that we must focus on skills so that people can work for themselves and also employ others.”

These were the words of Minister of Education and Training Lady Howard Mabuza when discussing the launch of the 5-year Policy on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The minister launched the policy today at Sibane Sami Hotel in Ezulwini.

Speaking about the country’s TVET policy during an interview with Eswatini TV, the minister noted that it is the framework which will give direction to all the stakeholders as they work on improving the country’s economy.

“You will recall that there are many institutions which help with TVET skills development. So, the policy will ensure that we’re all working collaboratively on the same goals,” said the minister.

“In previous years, TVET skills were being undermined as everyone was focusing on white-collar jobs and academic learning. However, we have realised that it is not working for us as developing countries including Eswatini,” added the minister.

The minister urged the nation to embrace vocational skills in training as well as part of the conversation of economic development everywhere.
