GOLF – To determine Mbabane Golf Club’s best players, the club will host its annual club championship from February 25 to 26 powered by Swaziland Building Society.
All club members in good standing will be eligible to participate and compete against each other over two days.
“The annual Club Championship is played over two days under the medal format. The best player is the one that plays the least number of shots over the two days and becomes the champion until the next club championship,” said Mbabane Golf Club secretary Thabiso Gama.
The reigning club champion is Vusi H. Dlamini, who won last year’s competition with an excellent score of gross 146, beating Siboniso Simelane by a single shot. The best net category was won by Dumisa Gama on net 139, prevailing by a single shot over Sabelo Motsa.
A total of 57 golfers participated in last year’s Club Championship and the hope and expectation is that the numbers will improve this year.
Previous winners of the club championship include Siboniso Simelane, Sam Richards, and Banele Mavuso to mention a few.
“While winning the championship is obviously a wonderful experience, it requires grit, determination and patience. Leading after the first day doesn’t mean anything if it will not be followed by another excellent showing on the Sunday. There are plenty of stories about golfers who have led after the first day, considered themselves champions, only to completely fall out of contention on the Sunday,” he added.
