U.S. EMBASSY ANNOUNCES ANOTHER MANDELA WASHINGTON FELLOW

MBABANE– The U.S. Embassy Eswatini has announced that Lungelo Zulu has been selected to be one of the 2023 Washington Fellows.

According to a statement, Zulu has been working as a human rights defender for over a decade, and he is the Founder and Executive Director of the Umhluma Women and Youth Foundation, an organization that focuses on advocating for the rights of widows and orphans in the Kingdom of Eswatini. This foundation is the only group in the country that advocates for the rights of widows.

Additionally, Lungelo is also the Executive Board Chairperson for Help of the helpless Foundation, which is a network of young single mothers who are being empowered with information on sexual health and reproduction.

The U.S. Embassy has it on good authority that Lungelo has a Diploma in project management and a diploma in the project financial management sector. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders,  Lungelo plans to use his skills to strengthen the paralegals program and work in partnership with other organizations to improve the lives of widows and their orphaned children in the Kingdom of Eswatini. He also aims to ensure that the government creates creates policies and laws that will safeguard widows and orphan rights, especially their inheritance rights.

The U.S. Embassy congratulates Lungelo on his selection as a Mandela Washington Fellow and wishes him all the best as he embarks on this program in Virginia.
