MBABANE – The UK government has donated equipment to help the Kingdom of Eswatini with antimicrobial resistance. The donation was made today at the Ministry of Agriculture offices in Manzini.

Speaking about the support, Ministry of Agriculture Phesheya Dube remarked that, “The work bringing us together is veterinary work as well as health. This means it connects three ministries, Health, Agriculture, as well as Natural Resources. This work entails fighting against microbial resistance which is similar in animals and humans. This is a situation where the body gets resistant to antibiotics, which means the body doesn’t get healed.”

The PS added that, “The UK Government has donated money for us to fix laboratories so we can check for antibiotic resistance in our animals. You will note that that is why this work involves different ministries: it can be the Ministry of Agriculture which is concerned with food and livestock, it can be the Ministry of Health where people are concerned, and the Ministry of Natural Resources also gets involved.”

The three Ministries were present to receive the donations which included equipment, in addition to the financial support.
