MBABANE – The annual Reed Dance Ceremony culminated on a high note as Princess Nkhosiyenzile led thousands of Imbali in song on the main day of the Shiselweni Reed Dance at Mbangweni Royal Residence. Spectators excitedly followed proceedings from packed stands.

At exactly 4 p.m., the King and Indlovukazi arrived, after which the maidens began dancing in a circular motion (kuhlehla), with those from Ludzidzini leading the dance. The last group to dance in front of Their Majesties was Imbali from His Majesty’s Correctional Services, who were simply a thrill to behold.

After the kuhlehla, Acting Indvuna Bongiwe Hlatjwako took over and sung “munikeni lelihawu lakhe.” The King and Libutfo then went around to appreciate the maidens, who could be heard screaming in delight as the King majestically passed by them. Some of those in the stands were spotted taking pictures of the King in his entire splendour.

As the dancing continued, different princesses danced one after the other, with Princess Nkhosiyenzile being the last to dance. The Acting Indvuna later announced that His Majesty had given Imbali a token of appreciation, which the maidens excitedly received as they headed back home.

However, it was Princess Nkhosiyenzile’s stirring song that united all at the ceremony, and it will forever be remembered as the highlight of this year’s annual Reed Dance Ceremony.
