For the first time ever, the Eswatini flag will fly high at Coachella this year after Amapiano sensation Uncle Waffles was announced as part of the music and lifestyle festival’s line-up.
Taking to social media yesterday in reaction to seeing her name alongside some of the biggest artists in the world, Uncle Waffles wrote: “Crying … vomiting … screaming.”
Uncle Waffles is one of many that had a highly progressive 2022 as she bagged deals after deals from her exclusive Waffle Burger with KFC to her residency at Unite Kingdom (UK) based station BBC Radio.
Many have witnessed her career rise to greater heights in the past two years as she toured across Africa as well as Europe and recently wrapped up her first American tour with sold out shows. This has gone to show how much of a global sensation she has become in a short space of time.
The Coachella follows her New Year’s Eve DJ mix for Apple music and now she has taken to her social media pages, to share that she will be having her first ever performance at the biggest annual music festival in the city of California, Coachella.
She will be sharing a stage with the biggest global acts such as Bad Bunny, Burna Boy, Rae Sremmurd, Calvin Harris, Pusha T and many more. This was dubbed by her fans an amazing way to start off the year as she further expands the reach of her career.
A number of fans and friends flooded her social media pages and congratulated the star on her amazing journey.
“Congratulations to Uncle Waffles and her team as they continuously work overtime to convert her brand into a global household name for many institutions and brands as well as musical establishments. This goes on to show that hard work really does pay off,” said one fan in the comments.
Another said “We cannot wait to see her set at Coachella and we are wishing many more gigs for her.”
Other top local acts that have performed at the festival previously include DBN Gogo, Major League DJs, Black Coffee and Moonchild Sanelly. This makes Uncle Waffles the first ever liSwati to grace the Coachella stage.
Uncle Waffles made the world dance at the Global Citizen festival in Ghana last year and further got a shout-out from Drake during the early days of her stardom.
For now she appears to be the only famous South African based artist on the list as she shares her excitement.
As previously announced, the festival occurs across two weekends: April 14 to 16 and 21 to 23 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.
Uncle Waffles has shown mastery over time as international artists have recognised her over a couple of years.
Since going viral in October 2021, Amapiano DJ Uncle Waffles has achieved massive success, even releasing her own Extended Play (EP) titled Red Dragon.
Coachella 2022 marked the first time the festival ever took a break between years, due to the postponement and eventual cancellation of the planned 2020 event.
For one who may wonder, Coachella showcases popular and established musical artists as well as emerging artists and reunited groups. It is one of the largest, most famous, and most profitable music festivals in the United States (US) and the world.
Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, simply known as Coachella, is a three day long music festival (Friday – Sunday) held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California in the month of April. This festival was spawned by a beef that Pearl Jam had with Ticketmaster.
