…as they consult with stakeholders

MBABANE – The UNDP today hosted a multi-sectoral conversation with stakeholders on access to law for key populations.
The conversation was held under the theme, “Entry points in Opportunities for strengthening access to services for key populations”.
Speaking on behalf of the UNDP during the consultation, Deputy Resident Representative David Omozuafoh spoke on the political commitments surrounding the issue.
“A few years ago, there was this political commitment that they called the 10-10 targets; that by the year 2025, in two year’s time, that there will be 10% less countries with punitive laws and measures, and legislative environment. The leave no one behind compels us to focus on discrimination and inequalities, often multiple and intersecting, that undermine the agency of people as holders of rights”.
“Many of the barriers people face in accessing services, resources, and equal opportunities are not simply accidents of faith, or lack of availability of resources, but are simply caused by discriminatory, laws, policies, and social practises that leave particular groups of people farther and farther behind,” added the Deputy Resident Representative.
Other issues which were brought up by stakeholders included discriminationand stigma as drivers of inacess to services by key populations.
