MBABANE-The Deputy Prime Minister’s Office has received E10 million towards programmes for people living with disabilities in Eswatini from the United Nations Children’s Fund.
At a conference held at Esibayeni Lodge yesterday, the DPM’s Office and UNICEF held their program whereby they were educating people on how and what to do for people living with disabilities.
Acting Director at DPMO, Mhambi Ndlangamandla, said that their mandate was to do things for the people.
“Our mandate is that we cannot do anything for people without the people. We have received E10 million towards the program from UNICEF which we run in partnership since 2022 to 2024.
“We came together with these organisations because they have more knowledge about how to uplift, encourage and help the lives of people living with disabilities,” said Ndlangamandla.
Federation of the disabled in Eswatini (FODSWA) President Bongani Makama mentioned he was feeling encouraged to see the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office working with organisations and people living with disabilities for this programme.
“It is encouraging to see the DPMO working with various organisations that are reputable for working with people living with disabilities as well as including people living with disabilities in various workshops to find out how best to help them.
“We need to realise that we do not come from the same backgrounds or organisations but we all want the same knowledge which is why we have gathered here today.
“We have also seen that life is not the same as it is constantly changing which is why we need to update things like terminologies that are no longer used because some people are not aware of changes,” said Makama.
Makama also mentioned that the program would provide new ways for people living with disabilities to have a voice in society.
