MBABANE– Ever since the Chief of Mission Chargé de Affairs Earl Miller took office last month, he has been busy with a number of projects.
Among the projects he has been busy with, getting to know Eswatini better is among them as he has been all over the country familiarising himself with a number of emaSwati.
Yesterday, Miller joined the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Power Africa Health Electrification and Telecommunications Alliance (HETA) project team to visit Motshane and Lobamba Clinics.
The visit focused on Eswatini’s participation in a global HETA public-private partnership to bring reliable, renewable energy solutions to health clinics throughout the country, and Eswatini will be one of the first countries to launch the project, which aims to provide reliable energy and connectivity to 10,000 clinics throughout Africa.
HETA was established to help address the estimated 100 000 public health facilities in sub-Saharan Africa lacking access to reliable electricity and internet connections.
This new Global Development Alliance was launched under the White House Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment.
The five-year program will leverage significant private sector resources to install reliable, renewable power and provide mobile network and internet access for 10 000 health facilities across sub-Saharan Africa.
During the visit, Chargé Miller thanked clinic staff for their contributions to the remarkable progress Eswatini has made in saving lives and managing the HIV epidemic. He said the healthcare workers in the country were doing a commendable job in saving lives.
“I have learned so much on this visit and I would like to pass my sincere thanks and gratitude to the healthcare workers I see today your work is amazing,” he said. Worth noting is that last week the Chief of Mission paid a visit to school, met with local media journalists, and further unveiled the new Manzini American Corner.
