MBABANE – The Eswatini Environment Authority (EEA) has received 60 receptacles from USA Distillers to help in the Clean Eswatini Campaign.
The receptacles were received by the management at the EEA offices and they will not only help on the on- going Clean Eswatini Campaign but in other waste management initiatives. This is to ensure a clean and safe environment in accordance with the Strategic Road Map 2019-2023.
In fact, the Clean Eswatini Campaign was launched by former Prime Minister, the late Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini. The first clean-up exercise was undertaken on the 27th of July 2019 in Matsapha, they also targeted other areas including Mhlaleni, Kwaluseni, Ndlunganye, Mathangeni, Eteteni to name a few.
It was gathered that the main source of pollution is residential waste consisting of processed food waste, disposable nappies, sanitary products and other household goods. It is without a doubt that these receptacles will go a long way in reducing pollution caused by the above mentioned waste.
EEA Environmental Inspector, Ndumiso Magagula said the receptacles will also help in reducing illegal garbage disposal on unmarked sites, he also explained the dangers caused by land and water pollution to the residents and environment.
“No tourist would want to visit an unsightly place and the receptacles will help in ensuring that we reside in a sanitized and clean environment to avoid any form of disease for us as well as animals too,” he said.
