MBABANE – Life will never be the same for 49 soldiers, as the Embassy of the United States of America (USA) in Eswatini has facilitated a construction of a structure to house the members of the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF).
The structure, according to a report from Eswatini TV, has been constructed by the soldiers and it is found at Phocweni Army Barracks. Micro Projects, a unit under the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, also played a vital role in constructing the structure. The structure will accommodate four soldiers per room. The structure also has bathrooms and other rooms where they can wash their clothes.
UEDF Commander Lieutenant General Mashikilisane Fakudze thanked the American Embassy for the kind gesture. He said this gesture would help in improving the working conditions of the soldiers, making them to be more productive in the process. He said this building would help even the soldiers who are running the Phocweni Clinic, including the support staff members who are involved in running the health centre.
USA Embassy Charge d’ Affaires Caitlin Piper said they were also happy to have contributed to the construction of the structure. She said they had a good relationship with the UEDF and they were of the view that soldiers needed to work under better conditions because they were responsible for protecting lives.
UEDF members also received working equipment which is worth E200 000, while the Phocweni Clinic also received help from this gesture.
