MBABANE – Vulamasango Junior Achievement has won two awards from the African Company of the Year hosted by Junior Achievement Africa in Rwanda the past week.
This comes after Vulamasango High School was declared the winner of the Junior Achievement Eswatini National Competition. Vulamasango came first out of five schools namely, Sifundzani High School, Manzini Nazarene High School, Lusoti High School and Mhlatane High School.
The pupils showcased a robotic bird system which looks like a normal household ornament but it has a camera used for security and surveillance purposes. The robotic bird can be monitored by an application through one’s cellphone.
Junior Achievement Eswatini Executive Director, Phetsile Masilela disclosed that Vulamasango won the Best CEO Award and Best MTN Future Tech Award
“We are very proud of our Vulamasango team for representing us well in Rwanda. The team leader won the Best CEO Award which means he exhibited qualities of being a leader and good team management. Also, the whole team represented themselves well in front of the Judges,” said Masilela.
Speaking during letishisako program on EBIS this morning, Masilela mentioned that this took a lot of hard work and training and also said this was not about the competition but the business idea that needs to be developed into an actual business in the future.
“Most people were impressed by the product that was displayed by the Vulamasango Junior Achievement Team. The Chairperson of Junior Achievement Rwanda even gave them his business card and mentioned that they would be happy to support their business idea so that it can reach other African countries,” she said.
She later thanked the Standard Bank Eswatini for sponsoring the whole trip and also appreciated the Ministry of Commerce for supporting Junior Achievement Eswatini.
