MBABANE – Water Aid Eswatini is closing its offices in Eswatini.
This was announced by the Non-Governmental Organisation’s Director Ncamiso Mhlanga today. The NGO is closing its offices after 10 years of service to Eswatini communities. The NGO will officially bid farewell to Eswatini in September.
“Water Aid has been in the country for 10 years, and it is time that we close down our operations in the country. We have seen Water Aid embark on a lot of projects like getting water into schools, hospitals and communities,” said Mhlanga.
“Most of the projects we have done are focused on the Lubombo and Hhohho regions, and we do have a few in Manzini. We have invested in the excess of about E200 million over the past 10 years, getting water to where it is needed in different places.
Mhlanga emphasized that indeed they have completed a lot of projects in assisting emaSwati and the Government. He added that indeed Water Aid was always going to eventually leave the country, hence it was important that they work with local stakeholders.
“We have not been working alone, because we knew that the time would come to hand over the projects as an international organization. We have been working with local NGOs like the Nazarene Compassionate Ministry, as well as Vusumnotfo. We have also been working with Government in all our projects,” said Mhlanga.
Mhlanga noted that their role as Water Aid was to invest in the infrastructure, and the sustainability of the projects relies on the local communities, NGOs, as well as the Government.
