MBABANE– Men found along the Buhleni and surrounding areas either at work or sitting in groups said they had no problem with their spouses attending the 2023 Buganu Festival.

The interviewed man said they were privy to naysayers who were of the view that women “Bobhejane’ were being taken advantage of during the Buganu ceremony but that was not the point.

“This is the biggest event on the calendar for women and as men, we were supportive today by allowing them to go and mingle with other women and the royalty today it is about,” said Salebona Nxumalo of Mhlangatane in Buhleni.

Worth noting is that Buganu is currently taking place at Buhleni Royal Residence where Throngs of Lutsango delivered offerings to Her Majesty Indlovukazi yesterday. Today marks the second day of the event and will later be graced by His Majesty King Mswati III.

Another man, a community police Archie Simelane from Magweni said he had allowed both his wives to attend the event because respecting His Majesty’s summons was paramount for him as a pure Swati man.

“Tsine phela simaSwati, heeding these summons and attending His Majesty’s events is very important because it is one way of preserving culture,” he said. In addition to that, he said in support of his wife he is going to set up a stall for fast food outside the main arena.

Offering a fresh and feminist view of things, Mndeni Mabuza of Magweni in Buhleni said, their wives went through a lot and deserved a time out. He said Allowing them to go out and mingle with other women was a well-deserved break.

“ These are our homemakers and they deserve the break, they need the break actually and what better way to get their break than by serving the royalty and mingling breaking bread with other women,” said Mabuza who is also interested in running for elections this year.
