MBABANE– “The education system needs to evolve to suit the needs of youth. Let create a new culture of entrepreneurship to benefit the youth.”
The above sentiments were shared by Minister of Public Service Mabulala Maseko during an interview with this publication.
Maseko said it was time they expose young people to different environments to stimulate their thinking and motivate them to achieve their dreams.
“The most effective institution for giving kids the ability to grasp and set lofty goals is education. Since the beginning of time, education has been prioritized above everything else, and it is our primary obligation as Ministers to prepare students for life. The schools give children a chance to deal with real-world challenges and develop their entire personalities,” said Maseko.
In addition, he said normal is not what it used to be, Maseko said COVID-19 has pushed public education, virtual instruction, and the needs of students to the center stage under an intense spotlight.
“These elements are under scrutiny from just about every angle, supporter, and detractor all over the country. No matter what your perspective or how you find yourself a stakeholder, one thing is abundantly clear; what we have always done is not good enough anymore. The system of education needs to evolve,” he said.
He further expressed his appreciation to the currently ongoing Career Expo and said it was an excellent opportunity for students to discover new ways and skills.
The 2023 Eswatini Career Expo was officially inaugurated today by Minister of Labour and Social Security, Phila Buthelezi.
Held under the theme ‘Enforcing skills and entrepreneurship for inclusive economic growth in the 21st century’ the event aims to provide information on potential career paths, empower young people with business opportunities, and align their skills and talents with current industries.
The Career Expo serves as a platform to bridge the information gap and address entrepreneurial skills among in-school, out-of-school, and marginalized youth.
By disseminating valuable knowledge and resources, it equips them with the necessary tools to explore career options and seize the opportunities available in the job market.
