MBABANE – “The Kingdom of Eswatini, just like member states of the G77, needs technologies to be able to predict, prepare and respond to such occurrences, as well as the adaptation and mitigation measures,”,
These utterances were made by the Honourable Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku.
He was speaking during the Summit of Heads of State and Governments of the G77 and China on Current Development Challenges.
The Summit was under the theme ‘The Role of Science, Technology and Innovation’ The DPM is representing His Majesty King Mswati III at the Summit held in Havana, Cuba.
Masuku went on to say, DPM, they are aware that today’s food systems are facing multiple crises. He said these challenges require an urgent and fundamental transformation of food systems. The answer lies in the role of Science, Technology and Innovation.
Masuku has urged G77 Nations to embrace an open and diverse knowledge system in order to leverage Science, Technology, and Innovation for sustainable economic growth.
“We must promote public understanding of Science, Technology, and Innovation. The effectiveness of the NSI (National Systems of Innovation) depends on a society that is aware of the value and potential dangers of science,” he said.
Masuku also joined other Heads of States at the official opening of the G77 Leaders Summit. This Summit commenced on September 15, 2023, in Havana, Cuba.
He also had talks with the Health Minister of Cuba Dr Jose Angel Portan Miranda today aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries. The Deputy Prime Minister is representing His Majesty King Mswati III in the two-day summit.
