MBABANE– Lost about what to do after high school?
Clinical Psychologist Innocentia Ndwandwe has shared with this publication tips for pupils who recently received their Eswatini General Certificate in Secondary Education (EGCSE) results.
Ndwandwe said she has witnessed a high number of suicide and depression cases among school leavers.
She said there are so many options out there for high school seniors who do not want to attend a four year university, or who would prefer to gain real-life or working skills before going to college.
“If you have just matriculated or graduated high school and want easy ways to make money, you can write CVs. With the country’s youth unemployment rate at 66. 5 per cent, job seekers want people who can create perfect CVs for them,” she said.
In addition to that, Ndwandwe said one may need to take time to research what recruiters want to see, to ensure that you providing your clients with the best service. You can charge from E50 per CV.
“Spending a year in service to others can help you discover your passions and may lead to your future career path. If you want to stay close to home, the internet may be a good place to start.
Each program has different admission requirements, so make sure to check the requirements for the program you are interested in. For most programs, you must be at least 17 or 18 years old, have a high school diploma,” she said.
In addition the Psychologist said, she could go all day giving advice on how school leavers could make money, while keeping busy. “The reality is, you do not need a business degree in order to become an entrepreneur. You probably will not have instant success, and you may not end like other entrepreneurs but that does not mean you will not succeed. Some people have a natural business sense and a way with numbers that will take them far,” she said.
